GHALANAI: Shortage of staff and other facilities in the Postgraduate College of Management Sciences, Ghalanai, has put the future of students at stake, according to sources.

A college teacher told Dawn that two posts of associates professors, three assistant professors, four instructors, and four junior instructors and other staff had been lying vacant since long.

The college was upgraded to postgraduate level in 2004 by former governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah to facilitate the students of far-flung areas of Mohmand tribal region.

Sahib Gul, the college principal, told Dawn that at present 200 students of D.Com, B.Com and BBA were enrolled in the college.

He said that college transformer had been out of order since long, adding that there was no proper furniture for students as well as for teachers.

Mr Gul said that work on construction of boundary wall, a 400-meter-long road, retaining wall, grilling, renovation of football ground and whitewash was in progress.

He said that the college, which is affiliated with the University of Peshawar, would offer classes in M.Com from this year.

Meanwhile, a staffer of the college said that a portion of the Lakaro boys’ degree college was destroyed in 2009, forcing the college staff to relocate to the postgraduate college. He said that Lakaro college staff and students had been occupying the bachelor hostel of the postgraduate college for the last two years, creating accommodation problems to students.

He suggested that the Lakaro college students and staff should be shifted to the empty building of the Chanda college.

A student complained that he often reached the college late owing to lack of transport facility. “Our college does not have any transport facility, which means we can’t go on trips like students of other colleges,” he said.

Other students said that the political administration had sanctioned three buses for students of Safi, Shabqadar and Pindiali areas, but later stopped the service.
