Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police to launch emergency alert app

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police plans to launch an android-based SOS application ‘One-Click’ which aims to notify the police of possible emergency situations in schools in Peshawar.

The app is being developed in the aftermath of the attack on Army Public School Peshawar on December 16 which led to the loss of 141 lives.

According to a handout, the KP police has started ‘this high alert security service on Android which will send a short message service (SMS) and call the police in one click’.

The police further said that in case of any emergency situation, a person can alert a nearby police checkpost by using the app.

Besides the field officers, a click on the alert button would also send a message to at least ten police stations including the central police office.

The app will also help guide the police to the spot.

The handout said the service will eventually be expanded and cover all schools and educational institutes across the province.

Props to PTI for trying to solve issues from the front with little help from the Center government. KPK is at the fore-front of the war on terror and not at all equipped to handle a guirrella like offensive.

Yeah, like they're gonna come running! Not regular police. Maybe some special commando unit of police or army. Regular police isn't even trained for Peshawar school incidents. What would the nearest check points or 10 nearest police stations do. Only make things worse! Need SWAT team/commandos or something comparable.

@ soh KPK police has also trained police commando units which are deployed in police stations.....these units are being trained on the basis of SSG training patterns. Of many one reference is here http://www.dawn.com/news/1120355

This is all great but technology is rarely a cure for a larger systemic issue. the ease of reporting via sms will give rise to false reports unless backed up by a phone call. It could even potential divert the police away from more dastardly events. Lets hope they have taken provisions to tackle all such circumstances.
