SUKKUR: A rally was taken out from Imambargah Hussainia in Mirpur Mathelo town of Ghotki district on Sunday in protest against the killing of a Shia Ulema Council (SUC) activist in Piryaloi town of Khairpur district a day earlier.

The activist, Syed Abbas Hyder Shah was shot dead by unknown assailants outside his house near Babarloi bypass triggering a shutdown and street protests across Piryaloi town.

Led by Zulfiqar Pitafi, Maulvi Akhtar Ali Loond, Syed Gullan Shah and other local SUC leaders, the protesters marched through the streets of Mirpur Mathelo and held a demonstration at Clock Tower Chowk. They condemned the killing and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits. Later, they resumed their march and returned to the Imambargah raising slogans against police and the Khairpur administration for failing to ensure safety and security of citizens, especially Shia community members.
