KARACHI, Sept 12: Sindh Chief Secretary Dr Mutawakkal Kazi has directed the secretaries of industries and environment to jointly prepare an effective strategy for disposal of industrial waste.

Talking to journalists at his office, the chief secretary said matters like repair of damaged roads, water supply and sewerage warranted implementation on priority basis.

The local government department, he said, was taking steps for implementation of the plan for replacement of old sewerage lines.

Mr Kazi stressed timely completion of projects of RBOD, Thar Coal, Khushhal Pakistan Programme, K-III Water Supply scheme, Lyari Expressway, Northern Bypass and other ongoing schemes in health, medical and education sectors.

He informed that the Shah Faisal Colony flyover had been completed and the FTC flyover would be completed in July 2004.

He further said the flyover at Shahrah-i-Quaideen would be completed in February 2005 and tenders for the project had been opened.

He went on to say that the construction of the drain at New Hino Chowk had been completed and the Sindh government, the city district government and the Defence Housing Authority were working together on improvement of road from Kala Pul to Hino Chowk.

The chief secretary also said the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was working on a project to recycle garbage.—APP
