CHARSADDA: Students of a government primary school for girls in Sher Payan village here on Friday staged a protest demonstration along with their parents against the closure of the school due to absence of its own building and shifting of the classes to another school.

The students carrying placards inscribed with slogans against the district education authorities held a sit-in at the main Farooq Azam chowk, blocking vehicular traffic.

They raised slogans against the local education officials and demanded immediate reopening of the school.

Parents said that the school functioning in a rented building for last six years was closed suddenly with the district education department announcing shifting of classes to government girls’ primary school in Azizkhel village where a single room was allotted to the 270 students of the Sher Payan school.

Local leaders of JI and ANP and civil society activists also addressed the protesters, saying that the school was closed three months ago after the landlord vacated his house from the school. Published in Dawn, November 29th , 2014
