QUETTA: Over 1,400 close circuit television (CCTV) cameras will be installed at more than 250 points in the city as part of the government’s efforts to curb terrorism and other heinous crimes.

This was said during a briefing given to Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch on Monday. The meeting was also told that X-ray machines would be installed at six exit and entry points of the city.

Two command and control centres have been set up that will monitor with the help of CCTVs the movement of suspects and vehicles leaving or entering the city.

Samer Ajjawi, a member of the business development advisory team of Etisalat, told the meeting that his company was successfully running such a project in Abu Dhabi.

The chief minister directed the authorities concerned to execute the project in a transparent way to avoid criticism.

He stressed the need for using information technology to curb terrorism and crime and said that developed countries had made the life of their citizens secure by using the latest technology.

“The government will use all resources available to it to rid Quetta and other parts of the province of crime,” he said.

The Provincial Minister for Information Technology, Law and Parliamentary Affairs and Information, Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal, Minister for Local Government Sardar Mustafa Tareen and senior officials attended the meeting.
