PESHAWAR: Christian families on Friday held a protest demonstration outside the press club here against the Peshawar Municipal Corporation (PMC) for forcefully evicting them from their houses.

Holding placards inscribed with their demands the Christian people said that they had been living in the PMC quarters at Mahala Jangi for a long time, but they were forcibly driven out of the houses. They said that they no resources to get houses anywhere in the city.

“We have been paying rent to the PMC regularly, but even then we are forced to vacate the residential quarters,” said the women protesters, adding that that some of the quarters had been locked by the staff, forcing them to leave in agony.

They demanded of the government to provide them alternative houses so that they could shift their families and belongings there easily because finding residences was very difficult for them.

The protesters said that their children were studying in the nearby schools and if they were shifted away they would suffer during the winter season.
