MANSEHRA: The emergency department of the King Abdullah Teaching Hospital (Kath), which was destroyed in the October 8, 2005 devastating earthquake, was reopened here on Friday.

The deputy commissioner, Ikramullah Khan, inaugurated the department. Talking to reporters on the occasion, he claimed that remaining work on the hospital would be completed soon.

“I know reconstruction work of the hospital is much delayed, but I assure you that remaining work would be completed within next six months as provincial government wants better health services for patients in the district,” he said.

Mr Khan also instructed doctors and medics to leave no stone unturned in serving patients who come to them for better care and treatment. “If you would serve patients wholeheartedly, you would not only discharge your duty but fulfill the basic obligation of Islam,” he said.

Speaking on the occasion medical superintendent Dr Mohammad Naeem Awan said that on completion the bedding capacity of hospital would be increased to 300 beds.

Kath is being reconstructed with the financial assistance of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

BAR COUNCIL ELECTIONS: Six contenders are in the run for two seats of Mansehra-cum-Battagram constituency of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council, where polling would be held today (Saturday).

Four-time president of Mansehra bar Shahjahan Khan Swati, Hafiz Naseem, Fida Mohammad, Mehboob Ali, Qazi Tariq and Abdul Salam are in the run.

A total of 16 contenders are in the run for five seats of the Hazara division.

DRC MEETING: The district police officer Ijaz Khan has asked members of the district reconciliatory committee (DRC) to senstise the people to the importance of informing police regarding crimes and social evils taking place in their areas.

“Though police are trying hard to eliminate crime from society, it could only be eradicated when people would extend cooperation to the police,” said Mr Khan while speaking at meeting of the DRC on Friday.

The DPO said that DRC was playing an important role in settling disputes out of court.

Mr Khan said that black sheep in the police would not be tolerated and that if people had

any complaints against police officials they should approach him directly.
