FM radio Khyber restarts transmission after two years

PESHAWAR: After being inoperable for two years due to security threats, FM Radio in Khyber Agency has restarted its transmission.

According to Federally Administered Tribal Area (Fata) secretariat officials, Fata Additional Chief Secretary Azam Khan issued directives to the political administration which has made the FM radio operational forthwith.

The government has also decided to set up FM Radio stations in all seven tribal areas with the aim of countering propaganda by militants and promoting peace in the militancy-hit area bordering Afghanistan.

The Lashkar-i Islam (LI) pirate radio which is already operating in Khyber Agency is a major propaganda tool used by militants.

Relaunching FM radio in Khyber at this stage would be crucial in countering the LI's radio propaganda.

It's good to have entertainment for the war torn region, we need to have some sort of entertainment to refresh and gain energy to deal with the very fundamental issues

@Anwar Amjad its because its based in Afghanistan! if you jam one or two frequencies, they will keep switching the frequency unless you jam the whole spectrum blocking all legal ones in the process.

It is a positive step and it should have some purposeful programs beside entertainment and education. This FM radio should high light the sufferings of Pukhtuns into the hands of terrorists and to educate people how to counter them and take this menace out of FATA.

@Shakil Khan read this again. The set up is in KP. This part of the world is in the control of the militants and there's strong anti Establishment feelings in the area due to decades of insurgency and operations. There's no peace for well over 3 decades due to Afghan war and people of this region have been used by the establishment.

Nib the evil in the bud! If they can reach masses with false propaganda (mullah radio Swat) why not the government with legal apparatus! In the end the common denominator for winning any war is media reach
