KARAK: The people of Khurram Muhammadzai, Totaki and adjacent localities have demanded of the government to upgrade the only girls’ high school to higher secondary level as additional classrooms for the purpose have already been built.

The demand was raised at a meeting of the local elders here on Saturday. They said that due to absence of higher secondary school, girls had to quit study after matriculation as poor parents couldn’t afford to send them to colleges of other areas.

The elders complained that there was only one higher secondary school for girls at Terri in the entire Banda Daud Shah tehsil.

They said that work on a girls’ degree college approved by the last ANP government for the tehsil, was still incomplete and demanded that the college building should be completed as early as possible so that classes could be started from the upcoming academic session.

The participants said that in the present era no progress could be made without educating women.

The elders offered accommodation facility to the female teachers if the girls’ school was upgraded.
