Nixor Red, CJM win throwball titles

KARACHI: Nixor College Red and Convent of Jesus and Mary (CJM) outplayed their respective rivals to win the throwball titles at the Fifth Culligan Girls Throwball Championships at the Pakistan Sports Board Coaching Center here on Monday.

The event was organised by Sindh Throwball Association in the collaboration with Pakistan Throwball Federation and Pakistan Sports School Association.

In the first semi-final of the Senior level, Nixor Red beat Agha Khan (Red) by 2-1 while in the second semi-final, The Lyceum beat Nixor White 2-0. The final of the Senior level, which was played later in the day, proved to be a thrilling contest as Nixor Red edged past The Lyceum 2-1 to lift the title in style.

Agha Khan Red outplayed Nixor White 2-0 to claim third place.

In the semi-finals of the Junior level played on Monday, Haque Academy beat Habib Girls School 2-1 while the CJM beat Mama Parsi School 2-0.

In the well-contested final played later in the day, CJM proved superior to Haque Academy, winning the match 2-1 to bag the junior level title.

In the third position match of the juniors, Habib Girls School beat Mama Parsi School 2-0.

Kareem Sheikhani, CEO Culligan Pakistan, was the chief guest on this final day and distributed cash prizes among the winners, runner-ups and third position holders. Shields and certificates were

also awarded to the outstanding players by Iqbal Ahmed (GM Culligan), Mudassar Arain and M.N. Mangrio.

Later on, a medal ceremony was also held to honour the Pakistan women throwball team which won a bronze medal at the Fifth Asian Throwball Championship held in Malaysia last June.

In the end, PTF secretary Maqbool Arain thanked the guests and the participating teams, the sports teachers, technical officials and the media for their cooperation in making the event a success.
