KARACHI: The West Pakistan Minister for Information, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr Ghulam Nabi Memon, yesterday appealed to the film industry, particularly the producers, to divert more attention to building up the film industry on sound, economic and patriotic lines rather than indulging in “undesirable tendencies” which do great harm to the public, particularly the youngsters.

Speaking at a function, he hoped that all those interested in this aspect of national solidarity will prove not by their words but by their action that they will endeavour to see that film production not only made material and pecuniary good for the producers, but also served the national cause for which every Pakistani stood shoulder to shoulder. Mr Memon said that the film industry in Pakistan has made considerable progress and was competing well in this field with the neighbouring country and abroad ever since the present regime came into power.

He said the recommendations of the Film Fact-Finding Committee were receiving “sympathetic consideration” both at the Central and Provincial levels”. He dispelled the apprehensions that the recommendations of the committee had been put into cold storage.
