Tariq leads at KP Golf Championship

PESHAWAR: International golfer and former Pakistan team skipper Tariq Mehmood of Navy with his gross score of two under par 70 became the leader on the opening day of the 54-hole 47th Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Amateur Golf Championship, which got under way at the PAF Golf Course on Friday.

Adviser to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister on Sports and Youth Affairs Amjad Afridi was the chief guest on the opening day.

Tariq, who also got the honour of hitting an eagle at hole no 17, par-5 drove with 5 wood by sinking the ball in a 4 feet birdie.

He also scored three birdies and missed a stroke at holes no. 5 and 12.

Tariq carded 37, one under par at front nine and 33, three under par at back nine holes by taking lead position.

International golfer Taimur Naseer, who recently represented Pakistan in Thailand Open, China Taipei and Sri Lankan Open, carded 72, par, over 18 holes with 34 at front nine and 38 at back nine by scoring one birdie and missed at stroke at 10 and hole no. 12.

Mohammad Naeem, a member of the Pakistan team, a 1 Handicaper, carded 35, one under at front nine and 38, two over par at back nine with gross 73, one over, on first 18 holes.

Naeem carded three birdies and missed a stroke at hole no. 3, 11 and 15 holes.

Inayat Ullah Yousafzai hit 74 runs, with 35, one under at front nine and 39, three over par, at back nine with three birdies and four bogies.

Somail Aziz of Islamabad, Khalid Mehmood of Rawalpindi and Zeeshan Khan of Peshawar Golf Club with their gross score of 77, five over par, were struggling at fifth, sixth and seventh positions respectively.
