TIMERGARA: The district education officer, Lower Dir, Hafiz Mohammad Ibrahim inaugurated the annual sports competitions of government high and higher secondary schools in the district on Thursday.

The inaugural function held at the Government High School, Khungi, was attended by ADOs Fiaz Ali, Ali Haider, ADO Sports Wajeehuddin, principal Hussain Ahmad and a large number of students, players and games’ officials.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Ibrahim said that sports activities were essential for the formation of a healthy society.

Earlier, district officer Riaz Khan, games’ secretary Humayun Khan and principals of different schools also inaugurated cricket, hockey and football competitions at Gul Muqam, volleyball at Ouch, basketball at Shamsi Khan, Talash, and badminton at Khungi ground.

The schools that recorded victories on the first day included Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Chakdara, in football; Government High School (GHS) Sehsadda in cricket; GHSS Sarai Bala in hockey; GHSS Shawa and GHS Tazagram in volleyball; and GHSS Chakdara in cricket.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony at Gul Muqam, games’ secretary Humayun Khan asked the officials and sportsmen to make the event a success. He termed sports vital for physical and mental development of children. He also asked the officials to focus on character building of students during these competitions. The zonal competitions would continue for two weeks and at the end inter-zonal competitions would be held.

MEDICAL CAMP: The Pakistan Army arranged a free medical camp at Tauda China, a far-flung village of Dushkhel, and provided free of cost medical treatment to the patients.

Expert physicians, including lady doctors and technical staff of the tehsil headquarters hospital, Chakdara, and BHU Tauda China, examined the patients at the camp.

A total of 412 women, 155 men and 156 children were checked by different doctors and provided with medicines and facility of lab tests. People of the area appreciated the Pakistan Army for helping the poor.
