MINGORA: Three people were killed and six others injured when a pick-up van plunged into a ravine here in Kalam Valley on Saturday.

An official of Kalam police station said that the van (Peshawar-C 6876) was going to Sheen area of Swat district from Kalam valley when after covering a distance of few kilometers the driver lost control and the vehicle plunged into about 350-feet deep ravine.

The official said that the local people took the injured to the civil hospital Kalam. He confirmed that three persons died in the incident and six sustained injuries.

Police identified the dead as Khan Sher, his mother Taj Meena and driver Taj Mohammad, while the injured included Alaf Khan, Afsana, Babo Jana, Sher Zada, Shamim and Masoom Jan. Three of the injured were later on shifted to Saidu hospital in critical condition.

Local people said that the incident took place due bad condition of Kalam road, which was damaged by floods in 2010. On May 27, 2014 another accident claimed 16 lives, including eight siblings, when a truck plunged into a ravine near Kalam Valley.

NGO OFFICE SEALED: Swat district administration on Saturday sealed an office of unregistered NGO and started legal action against its office-bearers.

Assistant commissioner, Swat, Ashfaq Khan, said that they raided the office of an NGO named the ‘National Commission for Interfaith Harmony and Human Rights’ which was not registered. He said that the NGO representatives were also using the name of government of Pakistan and green number plates on their vehicles.

DENGUE CASES: Three more dengue cases were reported at the Saidu Group of Teaching Hospital here on Saturday, bringing the number of dengue patients to 283 during the current season in Swat district.

According to a health department official, three persons, including Ihsan Ullah, 47, a resident of Sethi Mohalla, Amankot; 25-year-old Fazal Karim, a resident of Skha Cheena; and 17-year-old Sohail, a resident of Saidu Sharif tested positive for dengue fever. The official said that presently 11 patients, including seven male and four female, were under treatment at the hospital.
