Pemra bans Mubashir Lucman’s ‘Khara Sach’

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on Saturday banned ARY News anchorperson Mubashir Lucman's programme ‘Khara Such’.

The decision was taken in compliance of Lahore High Court (LHC) orders dated 17.10.2014 passed in Crl. Org. No.2070-W/2014, said a Pemra press release issued here.

Pemra directed M/s. ARY Communications (Pvt) Ltd (ARY News) to ensure with immediate effect that programme “Khara Sach” was not to be aired till final adjudication of the case.

“To ensure with immediate effect that Mubashir Lucman does not participate in any program on ARY News or on any other TV channel being aired in Pakistan either as a host or as an observer or as a participant,” press release said.

Furthermore, court orders have been circulated to all the satellite TV channels (News & Current Affairs) to comply with the orders of the high court in letter and spirit.

ARY Communications (Pvt) Ltd was also informed that in case of non-compliance, the authority shall be constrained to initiate appropriate action which may, inter alia, lead to revocation/cancellation of its license and/or imposition of fine or both under relevant provisions of Pemra laws.

How many mubashir perma is going to silence. I personally think honestly disclosing rather than hiding one's subjective values makes for more honest and trustworthy journalism. But no journalism - from the most stylistically 'objective' to the most brazenly opinionated - has any real value unless it is grounded in facts, evidence, and verifiable data and that is what mubashir likes an did. He challenges the news with verifiable data. Oh my god to ban khara sach is nothing but fascism

Here goes freedom of speech and expression out of the window in a so called democratic state. It did not happened during Musharaf era, as a matter of fact military dictator Pervez Musharaf allowed over 50 TV channels to this country , full freedom to press and individuals. I think we will see more restriction imposed on the press by present rulers.

Sad day for the millions who sit glued to the television waiting for the show to start, A black day for freedom of speech, liberty and justice for all. But wait these are not the values our society is based on rather than muzzling free speech, usurping liberty and restricting and rationing of justice for all. Without the courage of Lucman, and the sources he has cultivated over the years, millions of dollars will continue to be be looted and plundered with impunity without anyone bringing it to the people's attention. It is time for another forthcoming and conscientious journalist to awaken from his or her deep slumber, come forward and take up Lucman's mantle. It is imperative that someone continue to expose these crimes against the people. Can you imagine the celebrations going on in the homes of the so called elected representative whose license to steal, pilfer, finagle, and in turn sell the national treasure or what remains of it, has been renewed . What an atrocious decision, punishing someone before he has been found guilty of a crime, whatever happened to the presumption of innocence. But wait we operate on the converse, presumption of guilt!

I thought such decisions were taken only in dictatorships. How could any court ban a person from appearing on any TV program in any capacity? Isn't this a blatant violation of the freedom of speech given in the constitution? I am really surprised on this decision. I am sure this decision will soon be overturned by the Supreme Court.

Its not a question of Mubasher Luqman. This is the first time a show/person is being banned just because he was exposing corruption of these politicians. If these corrupt politicans succeed in this then they would slowly bring media under control by banning one by one all programs that exposes ills of our society. So this ban is a moment of truth for Pakistani people. If we want free media to stay then each one of us should stand against this ban and do whatever in power to revert this decision. Or otherwise think, if we lose free media then what will keep gov under check. Nobody, as our judiciary is already useless in keeping a grip on gov.

It is a good decision for M because it validates who ever stand in front of strong of our society have to face the challenges and oppression and criticism, look what they did to that man who opposed the VIP culture against Rehman Malik, they influenced the authority and they fired him, Look what they did to IK made fun of him by calling him Taliban Khan but he got resistance from media to politician but at last he got upper hand on all those forces and now this case ML related with press he was a doing a brave work by showing corrupt with valid proves for sometime now and this is the result. It show our society do not like and accept good people that is why we are going down as a nation.Good work ML

You can sue any anchor for derogatory comments or for defamation but you cannot curb his Freedom of speech banning him from anchoring. High levels of intolerance is seen in most of the pak mindset when people speak their mind (it may be right or wrong).

I see the same people cheering on the ban on Geo News now complaining. What they don't realize is the importance of precedents. If Geo had not been removed from the air, it would have been much more difficult for courts to ban Mr. Luqman (who incidentally also supported the ban on Geo). So shall you sow, so shall you reap.

Someone who speaks the truth is not allowed in Pakistan. Oh yes you can speak the truth but thats only when the lords (the ruling party) allows it or its in their favour. Other than that the independence of judiciary, fredom of press n expression, rule of law no such things truly exist in this country. The pakistani people live and are treated n have worse rights than a stray dog in the west. If you think otherwise you either dont live in the same pakistan as 90 percent of the ppl who dont even know what rights are or you simply dont like pakistan!

If Mubashir Lucman made any wrong allegations in his program than than he should be called upon to justify it rather than putting complete ban on him. The management of ARY may rename the program as " Truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth".

I had the opportunity of watching several anchorman recently. In my stay over 45 years here, I have seen rather strong attacks on various institutions from extreme right wing commentators in general. But certain restraint is maintained with regards to servicemen and judiciary. Freedom of speech comes with resposibility and not hurling of insults and accusation without concrete proof . But I have never seen such viciousness as on Pak TV channells

Accusers, cops, and lawyers will lie to establish their own "truths". Too often, judges are blindsided with convincing lies or their own biases!

I think Pemra or Court should not banned Mubashir Luqman from exposing corrupt politicians, Government officials and Judges with solid evidences. Bannng Mr. Lukman will increase the corruption. At the same time if Mr.Lukman is falsifying the evidence then he should be penalized.

Mr. Mubashir Lukman should be awarded Service medal and bravery medal of Pakistan if he is successfully exposing the mass corruption in Pakistan. Courts should play an active role and in the light of valid evidence they should convict the culprits A.S.A.P.

@Harmony there are some guideline of tv media . Freedom of speech does not allow to say anything against any person without trustable evidence. Some body claimed about freedom of press and media but some rule and code of conduct are given about media and television. Eveyone must be follow them .

I am not a big fan of Mubashar Luchman but one must realize the kind of evidences he brings out if they are far from facts then why the accused are not coming out openly on TV and deny it. Rana Mashood videos, Nawaz Shareef's Ihetesab cases etc. for example. I personally feel we must stand up to support him that he is risking his life and try to bring about the truth to public. Have these facts been aired before by our media? if someone even you like him personally doin a good job we must appreciate and support him. The height of corruption is so eminent in our country if don,t expose the mighty do you think you and me can do it ? Another example where Abdul Qadir's security guards killed an innocent young man, where is out Judiciary? Why no one is taking notice of this barbaric act. It is time we must stand up and support all those who are exposing the elite corrupt politicians. Put Pakistan first.

Most notably that of ARY it self. Among politicians, Imran Khan has tarnished his image by continually giving interviews to this despicable anchor. Anyway, good riddance for ARY as well for every viewer with a good taste.

Another blow to freedom of speech, The judges should watch Hannity show, or becker, they speak openly against Obama , or any judges who makes a different decision. In Pakistan why is it a punishable if speak against Justice Jawed who is corrupt. His love for Zeeshan should have landed him in jail and he should have been out of job.

The offensive and despicable manner in which he treated Ms. Muhktar Mai whom he had invited for an interview was absolutely disgusting! and examplary for the mindset if this man! Many anchors in Pakistan are a misbehaved, uncivilised lot who show disrespect for their guests and the audience at large by provoking the interviewees, shouting and creating a commotion during interviews, very often it is absolutely unbearable/unwatchable! I hope channels and anchors will take the cue and try to mend their ways, display civilised behaviour and refrain from incensing their audience!

Hate speech of all kind should be banned from TV. Mubashar Lucman was spreading filth since long under the garb of a TV program. He is embodiment of biased journalism in Pakistan. His tactics to gather cheap popularity by maligning opponents are disgusting. ARY and Geo TV have crossed all limits. By taking sides in a political strife they have proved themselves nothing but shallow propaganda machines. Mubashar Lucman should be permanently banned because he is defaming whole journalistic community. The supporters of PTI who are mourning this ban will soon see the real filthy face of this anchor when he will start his blackmailing spree against Imran Khan. It is high time we start differentiating between journalists and blackmailers!

Under the guise of "freedom of expression," many bad deeds are done. Remember, time and again, religious sensitivities of Muslims have been badly hurt by Western radicals expressing their "freedom of expression." There is no such thing as absolute "freedom of expression." Every society draws its line somewhere. Lukman's Khara Sach spreads hate and stirs trouble. Pakistan will be better off w/o his program, it will not be missed.

This is democracy at its best. Last week in the reshuffle of Punjab Cabinet, Rana Mashood was removed from his post based on the Khara Such report on his activities and there are so many disclosures by Mubashir Luqman so the ultimate result ought to ban the program and Mubashir otherwise he will keep on bringing all such actions of Sharief family plus Cabinet ministers.Sharief brothers keep it up until you are thrown out again by peoples force this time.

This would never have happened in a true democracy. There is no such thing as freedom of speech in this country. Democracy is a FARCE and those crying to protect the current democracy are the ones who would be the first ones to get kicked into prisons once and if true democracy comes.

I strongly believe that either PEMRA starts monitoring all programs of Tv channels or this organization should be dissolved as one cannot see its effectiveness. Mubashir Luckman was consistently violating the rules of PEMRA by using unethically language against elected representatives of Pakistan and former Chief Justice of Pakistan, tarnished the image of Pakistan worldwide, and the regulatory body remain mum,unable to take strict action against him. My questions to all to all journalists: Is there any ethic in journalism?, Is it really necessary to make this kind of language to get TRP?, can any person or Tv channel become media cell of any political party? Can any journalist use street language in live show?

Its action, or may have submitted after out of fare of the courtt order Authority is Authority, If it delayed intentionally waiting for courts order then Pemra is responsible for delayed action and demaged done to the affecters After all Mubesher is not an angle How many enchors dare to do so

The best course of action would have been a trial in a court of law, not silencing the journalist's voice. Musharraf , a dictator created free media, the Democratic rulers are shutting up free speech. Sham democracy. Pakistan needs a democracy in which leaders are visionary, honest and patriotic,not incompetent, corrupt which they in fact are. Mubashar Luqkman has been exposing massive corruption of our ruling elite and therefore became a threat to the party in power and in opposition.
