MULTAN: A two-day Dawn in Education Spelling Bee Competition started here on Wednesday.

As man as 300 students of 43 schools from Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Khanewal, Muzaffargarh, Bahawalnagar, Vehari, Rajanpur and Jhang are participating. The contest is being conducted in three age groups 9-11 years, 12-14 years and 15-17 years.

The students of two categories 9-11 and 12-14 participated in the first-day contest being organised by the Dawn Media Group in partnership with the United States Embassy, Islamabad.

Judges have been provided by the Oxford University Press. The contest of age group 15-17 years would be held on Thursday (today).

Three students from each group will qualify for Lahore Regional Championship which will be held on Nov 1 in Lahore.

Noor Fatima and Shufan Javed from LaSalle Higher Secondary School and Abdul Wasay from Bloomfield Hall School, Junior Cantt, Multan obtained first, second and third positions, respectively, in 9-11 age group.

For the age group between 12-14 years, Ayesha Batool of Jinnah High School, Multan, Haseeb Ahmad of Chenab College, Jhang, and Suman Khan of Multan Public School and College (Girls) stood first, second and third, respectively.

The pronouncer of the competition is Saleha Hassan Toor while Dr Adnan Tahir, Dr Masroor Sabtain, Mustansir Aftab Lodhi and Sidra Mazari are the judges.
