'Target killer' confessed to 14 murders of religious, political leaders: Karachi police

KARACHI: Police is claiming to have arrested a man who has confessed to the murder of 14 people in Karachi.

Police said the suspect, during interrogation, admitted to the killings of leaders from different religious and political parties.

He was arrested on Tuesday in an encounter in the city's Gulshan-i-Iqbal area, whereas one of the suspect's affiliate managed to escape arrest.

Police said the suspect was affiliated with a political party but did not name any group.

Karachi, the largest metropolitan city of Pakistan, is riddled with targeted killings, gang wars, kidnappings for ransom, extortion and terrorism. Targeted operations led by Rangers’ forces with the support of police are ongoing in the city under a directive issued by the federal government against criminals already identified by federal, military and civilian agencies.

In January, police had arrested a target killer from the city's Musharraf colony and had alleged that the suspect, who hailed from a political party, was a wanted man in the killings of 28 people.

Whenever killing in this beleaguered city increased the Police stages the same drama that they have captured a target killer who confessed killing of many people and then killing starts again there is no solution of this problem until and unless Sindh Police is cleansed of corrupt political appointees

We have heard so many arrests since the past 10 months or so. Had they all been genuine arrest, there would have been some sort of peace in this city. I am afraid this is not likely. Why don't police or rangers come up with the political party name and their leaders who are behind all this. Why can't you reach the top once you have found the bottom. It is the Top from where it starts.

So many get caught but then there is no follow up news, no trials & no final verdict. What good is this gonna do unless you don't hang these murderers. In fact the message we get is that these guys can run over us any day and the courts are not gonna do jack about it. Feels like this is being done deliberately.

A useless news , he killed 14 or 40, same story. We all know he did not do it because of personal motive, he was paid by someone to do it. Who is that man or party that paid him to go on target killing ? Name it if you want people to believe it.

No name of the individual. No name of the political outfit he was associated with and no names of victims he murdered. What kind of a sham operation is this. If you are going to go after criminals and murderers, then you should arrest them, charge them and name them and their political outfits publicly. Otherwise, there is no faith in the effort by the security agency. By the way, was this man given the benefit of legal representation or was his confession obtained by torturing him??

To remind you all.... an MQM worker "confessed and admitted" to have killed Dr. Imran Farooq and buried him in Balochistan. Few years later Dr. Imran Farooq emerged alive in London! LEA accused and launched massive operation against MQM in 1992 citing evidences, maps and what not.... 15,000 innocent deaths later... the then-chief-of-ISI (or head of operations) admitted that there were no evidences and he faked the map in his office. Hakeem Saeed's murderer was supposedly a MQM worker too... only to be declared innocent some 6 years later, twice!!! Nobody trusts this police and LEA. They can pick anyone from street and make them confess to anything and then label any political party they wish.

so many target killers has been arrested ,some of them even confessed killing more than 100 people(in Pakistan it is very easy to get desired confessional statement ) if we analyzed their statement the result will be all the target killers has been arrested...but still target killer strike when ever they want.Recently there was a report by IGP police that there is a 3rd force involving in the killing of both shias and sunni

Target killer arrested. Political party or banned party worker no face shown no victims names.! Haven't we read this before umpteen times.But ,target killings are going on at a rapid rate,totally uncontrolled. What is the LEA s doing,same old nothing.Because,there is no target killer arrested and therefore no face shown and if shown its covered
