Mother of Indian engineer missing in Pakistan appeals to Modi

Fauzia Ansari, mother of Indian national Nehal Hamid Ansari who is currently missing in Pakistan, has appealed to Narendra Modi to intervene and secure her son's release, a report published in the Times of India (TOI) said.
Ansari who went missing in the northwestern Pakistani district of Kohat in 2012 was taken away by personnel of intelligence agencies from a police station before his mysterious disappearance, police personnel had told the Peshawar High Court (PHC) earlier in September.
When Nehal was first arrested, he was shifted to the Kohat Development Authority (KDA) police station for interrogation. However, the investigation officer at the time had insisted that personnel of intelligence agencies took the Indian national away after the police quizzed him and his whereabouts have not been known since.
The PHC has been hearing a petition on his disappearance filed by Fauzia.

Fauzia, who travelled to New Delhi recently and has also applied for a visa to visit Pakistan, is also likely to approach the Indian Supreme Court over her son’s disappearance.
In a letter written to the Indian premier in Hindi, Fauzia invoked the special relationship Narendra Modi shares with his mother and said that not knowing whether her missing son was alive was a source of immense suffering.
"I plead before you with tears in my eyes and a bleeding heart to locate my son, a 28-year-old IT engineer and MBA holder — an Indian citizen — who is missing in Pakistan since November 2012,” TOI quoted Fauzia’s letter as saying.
“He is a well-educated, promising youth who believes in the ideals of patriotism and in the concept of 'Vasudhaiva kutumbakam' (the world is my family)," the letter says.

The pain is obvious for the family, as is the lack of humanity and corruption in Pakistan.
It is only "one telephone" call from Nawaz Sharif or any of his family member to get the young man back home. They "must" make this call, not for the political gains but as a human. A good deed always pay back.

While we can sympathize with Fauzia Ansari, how will writing a letter to PM Modi help. He is the PM of India and not Pakistan, where help is needed. If he is in the clutches of Pakistani Intelligence Agencies, neither PM Nawaz Sharif nor the Courts will be able to secure his release.

If you need info(spy info) just pay money for authenticated information but don't go there. I have very close Pakistani friends, I saw some picture of Pak, it is a beautiful country. I expressed many times if I can visit Pak. They categorically said NO and explained situation there. Even I am from Mardan but once my family didn't allow me in 2012 to visit Kohat University for the interview. 2012 was the height of the game in these areas which is playing by nexus of world agencies against Pakistan. I think ToI must mention the reason of his visit. If he is innocent, he must be released, however, appealing Narenda that he will save him, forget about it.

Dear fellow readers
While it is certainly strange what Mr Ansari was doing in Afghanistan or Kohat in 2012 when he would have had ample job opportunities in India, relevant issue in this case is his disappearance. In all probability he could have been a spy for Indian or any of the Pakistani intelligence agencies, or perhaps wanted to join Taliban, may be a plain stupid person at a wrong place. If that is the case, he should be take to a transparent trial and accounted for. If he is really a spy and must get executed, that should be done on record.
These police and intelligence disappearances must stop. I believe that is only issue that is relevant here.

Some crucial facts of this story are missing: He entered Pakistan from Afghanistan without a visa. He booked a room in Kohat using a fake CNIC. He went to Afghanistan on a 'tourist visa' as a tourist when all other foreigners are leaving Afghanistan. Clearly there is something fishy. Thank god he was caught.

@Azmeen I do have some information about this case - he used to work for a large multinational company, and was sent to Pakistan to seed operations there. Perhaps his bosses had the mistaken belief that his Muslim faith might spare him ill-treatment.
In any case, I appeal to all Pakistani citizens who can help, to please help. This is clearly a case of mistaken identity, would plead to all reader's of Dawn to bring influence upon their political leaders and help this family in duress.

What was his purpose of visit? Was he spying for INDIA? Pleas are being made but his mother didn't mention or didn't know what her son was doing in one of the more sensitive areas of Pakistan. I feel bad for this guy's mother but had she known more about her son's activities, which every parent should, then she would not have faced this problem.

Let's assume for a moment that he was an Indian spy. Does that mean the it gives Pakistan a right to make him "disappear" with nobody questioning them? There are millions of illegals in USA, surely many from Pakistan or for that matters tens of thousands Bangladeshi illegal immigrants in India. Do these countries just make them disappear? All countries have spies in all countries, not necessarily to cause damage, but to watch if that country is trying to cause any damage to us. Some fanatical forces in ISI may think that this is the way to go, but they also in the process are giving the other side a hint that they should also kill any Pakistanis found in their country. Not very smart. And this was very evident in recent case where an Indian "spy" was killed in Pakistani prison, which was immediately followed by a Pakistani prisoner getting killed in India.

My take on this case is that Nehal Hamid Ansari's is a typical idealistic young man that probably fell in love with someone in Kohat and wanted to take her away as a movie hero. He is certainly in custody with Pakistani intelligence. I do not believe that he is a spy. An MBA and an engineer is no spying material. If he was sent by Indian government he would have much better prepared, I request Pakistani authorities to kindly release this Muslim young man from India and have mercy on him and his family. Destroying the life of a young person will not benefit Pakistan in any way. What if one of your son gets into such stupidity as Nehal? Will you hang him?

As long as you enter with proper papers you will be fine. I saw many tourist wanderign the streets with no problems. Waiting for CNG, I had sardarji right behind me listening to Punjabi songs in KPK

@Feroz Ansari went for a job interview in Afghanistan in November 2012 and disappeared after that. His parents went through social media and learnt that he had exchanged several messages with a woman in Pakistan.
This woman could be a taiban or ISI agent acting as a woman. He met this so called woman on Facebook. A good investigation could easily track the account holders

Indians coming through proper visa and through legal ways are more than welcome.
By the way why 'he' entered Pakistan via Afghanistan. HE could have easily entered through valid entry points !!!!

Considering the relations between the India & Pakistan, the adventure that Nehal took was a dangerous one, entering from Afghanistan without any official document. In a situation where Pakistan is continuously facing terrorist acts sponsored by Afghan and Indian intelligence, it is no wonder Nehal was picked up. I have been to India only once, but I can tell you the Indian intelligence would not have done differently with any Pakistani. That said, I hope that if Nehal is innocent then he be released on humanitarian grounds. I really appeal to the Pakistani government to look into this sympathetically.

if I recollect correctly his going to Pakistan via Afghanistan has some thing to do with a young Pakistani woman with whom he fell in love as a FB friend..If i recollect this correctly before he left for Pakistan via Afghanistan he mentioned this to some of his close friends.She had send him a SOS that she was in trouble.
Worth checking these details on net..I am sure this story is some where on net..

@Talha You are totally misinformed about floods in Pakistan by your media and politicians. India did not release any water. It rained very heavily in Jammu & Kashmir for days together. Srinagar was inundated being a bowl surrounded by mountains. The water can't be drained from the valley in a hurry.

Well he's an Indian Muslim and Pakistan was made for all Muslims of Subcontinent not just for Muslims of Punjab, Sindh, Sarhad and Balochistan. So every Muslim from Subcontinent has claim over Pakistan and can come, live and work in Pakistan.

You people are not aware why he was in Pakistan so allow me to explain everything.I hope dawn publishes my words.This guy was dating a Pakistani girl through video chat for sometime and one day she told him that she is being forced to get married as per her family's wishes and then she requested this guy to come and save her.So this guy took on a journey from India went to Afghanistan and from then entered Pak.
He made friends with some local guys in kohat before being caught by the police.I think detailed report is in TOI website.

It's so bizarre that an Indian "engineer" illegally crosses into a battle zone such as Kohat via Afghanistan, doesn't get shot or killed, and very wrongly assumes he won't be caught by our outstanding security apparatus. It sounds like a c-grade bollywood movie : ((
I feel sorry for this guy's mother, yet she shouldn't play the nationalist Indian card with a Modi who doesn't give a damn about Indians who may be "Muslims" in name only. N. Ansari's mother should know that Pakistan's worst enemies aren't all Hindu-ists such as Modi, many Indian Muslims are also hateful of Pakistan, thus are traitors in the eyes of the Pakistan. For every Indian spy or terrorist that's caught on the path of death and destruction in Pakistan, there are many that aren't being caught. I belong to KPK and speak all the local languages, with any accent . Even I would no t like to go to Kohat unless my life depened on it. What was an Indian doing coming to kohat over the Pak Afghan border and that too illegally without a visa? If it was for a woman I regret his choice he should have met her over the internet or in some southern city. I have my sympathies for his mother.

In Pakistan when Indians visit dont have to report to any police station, they are free just like any other visitor, but sometimes a line has be drawn, specially during current prevailing conditions in the country. Really sorry for the mother's tears and I am pretty sure after questioning by the parties in question he'd be set free if he comes out clean.

@rehan - It is not about the "audacity" of defending anything. Don't YOU as an (presumably) 'educated' Pakistani, want to establish the Rule of Law in your country? Hang him if he was a spy - if that is what your Laws stipulate. But, don't YOU want to know how and why he disappeared - so that you can exercise your writ appropriately?
Isn't this story an opportunity for YOU as a GOOD CITIZEN of your country to raise these questions with your leaders? Are YOU not, with your views, also contributing your mite to choosing the leaders that YOUR country deserves, and for perpetuating the acrimonious relationship between our countries?

@DG - Sir, fully concur with you - you make a lot of sense. By all means, arrest him for having illegally crossed over into Pakistan, and find out what he was doing there - and punish him as per your law. But there is no earthly reason to not do things transparently.
