Ajmal gets double promotion at ZTBL

ISLAMABAD: Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) on Monday announced a two-step promotion for beleaguered off-spin maestro Saeed Ajmal.
Ajmal, currently facing a suspension from international cricket by the International Cricket Council (ICC) over an illegal bowling action, has been promoted as senior vice-president at ZTBL.
Earlier, Ajmal was serving the bank as assistant vice-president. However, the bank, in recognition of his services for the country, has promoted him as senior vice-president.
“According to the bank rules, assistant vice-president is supposed to be promoted to vice-president, but as a special case, ZTBL president Syed Talat Mehmood granted a two-step promotion to the legendary spinner,” Mohammad Yasin, a spokesman of ZTBL, told Dawn.
Regarding Ajmal as an asset for Pakistan cricket, the spokesman said that at this critical time when the player was facing the ICC ban the bank decision on the bowler’s promotion would boost his morale.
“ZTBL has re-designated Saeed Ajmal as senior vice-president on the basis of his excellent performance at international and national level. His contribution towards promoting cricket in the country has also been remarkable, including the establishment of a cricket academy in Faisalabad,” said a statement issued by ZTBL.
Meanwhile, batting legend and former captain Javed Miandad hailed ZTBL decision to promote Ajmal, saying all other departments should follow the bank’s player-friendly policy.
“Departments should give incentive to their players.. this is a good trend,” Miandad said while talking to Dawn. “I am very happy to know that Ajmal has been given promotion at a time when he is facing an uncertain situation due to the ICC suspension on him.”
While designating Ajmal as a vital player for Pakistan cricket, Miandad said: “I’m in touch with Ajmal. Two days ago I gave him some important tips [for correcting his bowling action]. I hope Ajmal will soon return to international cricket.”

This is one of the reason that Pakistan does not and cannot progress. No country in the world will make a player of the head of any department unless he/she has the required qualification. This entire system is messed up, a mbbs doctor can become magistrate and an engineer can be hired as a police head without going through proper prefssional training as long as they pass so called CSS exam and offer good amount of bribe...this entire country/system need to be reformed.

He should be rewarded with promotions based on his performance on the job in the bank, and should not be promoted for being a spinner. Saeed Ajmal has achieved a lot for Pakistan, but the 2 fields are completely different. This is a form of a sifaarish, where someone better who may deserve the job more is deprived of his merit and abilities to work at such a senior post. This is extremely annoying.

This is very wrong move and send a bad message to others. What is the fault of those who really deserve promotions ? Ajmal is a multimillionaire already. Ban in cricket for his silly actions does not make him deserve such promotion. But this is what Pakistan is and such nepotism is degrading and step backward.

Bank hire players so that they can be represented in national sports and domestic season my friend. These players dont actually head departments and make operational/administrative decisions. These jobs good for players because then they can concentrate on their game and train other players in that institutions team. And btw wasim, waqar, aqib all came from these domestic teams. Guys get you facts straight before throwing a fit.

Seriously is this really true? qualified Charterd Accountants are Job-less in Pakistan. yet a cricket is appointed at key postion in Government Department. Does Saeed Ajmal holds the qualification required by Job Description of The Senio Vice President.
This is not good for the country. A specialized person with atleast PHD or Master In Banking & Finance should be considerd for this Job (with alteast 20 years of Progressive post Qualification Experience).
Most importanly Government Servant cannot opt for part Time Professions. All Saeed Ajmal will do will train to improve his bowling style. and ZTBL/Government/Public shall bear the losses.
But then again we live in a democratic country. everything is possible as long as the loss is bear by the Citizens of this Nation.
It is truly depressing that my qualified Pakistani brothers and sister are unemployed. some one should be held responsible.

Before throwing a fit, please remember that players are hired as players not as bank staff and they have no input in administrative and operational decisions. He just plays cricket for ZTBL team in domestic season.

Ajmal became a cricket player, got a spot in the team and played really well but he was paid handsomely and received recognition all around the world. Well done..but why become senior VP though, does he have qualification to be a SVP of a bank. I guess not. Why don't we promote real heroes who defend out country, fight to protect us and lay down their lives for Pakistan. There are countless people in the Army and Police but they never get a recolonization like Ajmal. This is the problem with Pakistan and progress cannot be achieved by mere saluting the rich and famous all the time.
I live in the West and all the big successful athletes gets their due but they have to achieve the rest on their own. Nothing comes free but only by hard work, dedication and being persistent. Pakistan has to stop this nonsensical approach and promote intellectual who are well deserving. We put out scientist in jail who gave us the nuclear capability and promote people who are well compensated already. What a joke......
