KARACHI: Pakistan’s plea for more capital aid to the developing countries within the Commonwealth for implementing their educational plans was accepted at the recently concluded third Commonwealth Educational Conference, Mr A.T.M. Mustafa, Central Education Minister, said in Karachi yesterday [Aug 12].

Mr Mustafa, who led the four-member Pakistan delegation to the conference at Ottawa, Canada, from Aug 21 to Sept 4, was talking to newsmen on his return from London. He later left for Rawalpindi.

The minister said: “We have a number of scientists, engineers, technologists and technicians in Pakistan today. What we need is the capital equipment and capital aid so that we can provide training facilities in our own institutions. We are interested in building up our own national institutions.”

Mr Mustafa disclosed that the Commonwealth Education Committee will provide more scholarships and fellowships to Pakistani students for higher studies in Commonwealth countries.

He said that at present about 100 Pakistani students were studying in various Commonwealth universities.
