PESHAWAR: A child was injured when unidentified people hurled a hand grenade on a house in Hayatabad area of the provincial capital on Saturday evening, police said.

An official of local police station said that unknown persons threw a hand grenade on the residence of one Abdullah, belonging to Waziristan Agency, which caused injuries to a child. The official said that the incident also caused minor damage to the house. The complainant didn’t nominate anyone in the case as he said that they had no enmity with anyone, added the official.

The official said that case into the incident couldn’t be registered as yet as the investigators were busy collecting evidence in that regard. Apparently, he said it seemed to be a case of extortion.

Meanwhile, the local administration on Saturday demolished several mud houses owned by Afghan nationals which had been constructed on a piece of state land measuring 70 kanal in Phase-III area of the provincial capital.

An official said that owners of some 400 houses had been given three-month notice several times in past but they ignored the orders, forcing the administration to launch the operation.

The official said that a team headed by assistant commissioner Mumtaz Ahmed Khan and additional assistant commissioners Mohammad Shoaib and Haseeb-ur-Rehman demolished the structures, using heavy machinery.

The official said that no one was arrested during the operation as owners had already vacated the site. He said that government offices would be built on the site.
