Indian trade delegation to visit Pakistan

LAHORE: A high-level Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) delegation will visit Pakistan during the current month to explore the possibilities of promoting bilateral trade ties between the two countries.

Talking to newsmen on Thursday, Saarc Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Saarc CCI) Vice President Iftikhar Ali Malik said CII would extend support and training facilities to develop human resources in industrial sector to meet the international standards and modern trends in global marketing.

He said there was a need to address concerns relating to market access, tariff and non-tariff barriers.

The Pakistan-India trade leaders stressed the need for “trust building measures” between private sectors of the two countries to boost bilateral trade, he added.

“Pakistan wants a level playing field for strengthening trade ties with India”.

Iftikhar Ali further stated that leaders from both the sides were pushing the need to liberalise the visa regime between Pakistan and India to promote business linkage.

The CII delegation, to be headed by Rajesh Menon, would hold meetings with President Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Usman Zakaria, Chief Executive Pakistan Trade Development Authority S.M. Muneer, Chairman, Pakistan India Joint Business Forum, Syed Yawar Ali, Saarc CCI and corporate sector leaders.—APP

Why India is so eager for trade relations with Pakistan? If Pakistani Rulers have any sense they should tie up such relations with its due share in the rivers' water according to the past agreements. Kashmir issue should definitely be in the agenda. Mian Nawaz Sharif may be advised by his cabinet members to consider such suggestions before being aggressive for trade ties or any other ties which go in the interest of India. After all we are an atomic power and not a country like Bangladesh.

I read many articles debating Pakistan idea or the condition on 68 independence day or for that matter where to go forward.I think to sum it pakistan has a big young population. It needs nothing but jobs and a market to unleash its huge potential. IT IS JUST NEXT DOOR ,,,,GRAB THE OPPORTUNITY

@VIN We would like to grab our share of water from India. This way our agriculture will grow and ultimately a lot of jobs would be created. We the Pakistani Nations do not want any trade relations with India unless and until Kashmir issue is resolved and our rivers grab water. India is in trouble due to high jobless ratio that is why it comes up with such foolish ideas.

@Ahmad Gharib Nawaz Khan So what if you are an atomic power. So are we. This power does not feed the poor of the nations. Get your facts right, CII is visiting at an invitation. Development of Trade and Commerce are the only options for elevation of poverty and livelihood.

We don't want trade agreements with India which continues to stall on the Kashmir issue for the last 60 years and have plunged our region into a nuclear stand off. How can their be trade until their is mural trust and respect? I'd rather explore the other 194 countries of the world with whom we have good and/or neutral relations with. Trade will have to wait till the Kashmir issue and our headwaters sources are resolved. They should respect that.

A necked fact is that in current time India goods are being sold in Pakistan via Dubai with higher cost which can be slashed with direct trade. Dubai is enjoying Carry & Forward status and enjoying MALAI. Many Pakistani fear that Indian goods will destroy their local industry, but the fact is that competition is always lead to make better. Is Indian industry collapsed by trade with China? When India was border closed country (In terms of trade & investment) the people of India have no choice when they want to buy car except Ambassador car but today many car companies are in India manufacture their car India and Indians have the choice to buy local manufactured car with lower price. Also Pakistan cement, textile and banking (And may be more other) sector have upper hand comparing to India, so I think there's no need to fear. BTW, "atomic power" word don't suit to us when the matters of development. It will not feed our poor citizens.
