QUETTA: At least two security personnel and seven militants were killed and more than 20 others injured in Turbat operation on Thursday after unidentified gunmen opened fire at a security forces’ convoy.

Home Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfaraz Bugti confirmed that seven militants were killed and more than 20 injured in the clashes, adding that weapons were also recovered from the possession of militants.

“Forces were still conducting raids in different areas to apprehend the miscreants,” Bugti stated.

Security forces launched an operation in the area in the aftermath of attack at forces' convoy by militants in Nasirabad area of Turbat on Thursday morning.

The attack came when the convoy was in Turbat's Nasirabad area. Rescue teams rushed to the site of the incident and shifted the injured to a hospital whereas some of them were taken to Quetta with the help of helicopters.

Security personnel cordoned off the area as a search operation went under way. No arrests were made until the filing of this report nor was there any immediate claim of responsibility.

In a separate incident, armed men opened fire and killed a Balochistan Constabulary man near the Governor House in Quetta.

According to police sources, the assailants opened fire near GPO Chowk and killed Aziz Ahmed, who was working for the Balochistan Constabulary. The assailants sped away after the attack.

Balochistan has been experiencing a separatist insurgency, sectarian violence and suffering attacks by militants.

Hundreds of people have died since rebels rose up in 2004 demanding political autonomy and a greater share of profits from the region's natural oil, gas and mineral resources.
