ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq on Tuesday said the attitude of the government in Islamabad could be explained with the expression of Nero fiddling while Rome burned, adding that governance by rulers was mainly confined to their homes and offices.

Addressing media representatives in the capital, the JI chief said saving the country and democracy was the need of the hour.

He added that the condition in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had not deteriorated to the extent that the provincial assembly be dissolved.

Siraj further said that statements issued by the federal ministers against opposition parties were tantamount to adding fuel to the fire and the central government should show some flexibility in its behaviour.

Earlier, he had urged Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to allow the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) to hold the August 14 march.

Haq had also told his party workers in Bannu that the JI was against PTI’s proposal for assembly dissolution, adding that it would not support what he termed an undemocratic move.
