KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement and the Jamaat-i-Islami have criticised the decision to impose the pillion-riding ban in the city on the occasion of Eid and demanded that the government withdraw it immediately.

In a statement issued on Sunday, members of the Sindh Assembly belonging to the MQM said the ban would hurt a large number of citizens and increase their problems on Eid.

They demanded the chief minister, the governor and the police chief review the decision and withdraw it in the greater public interest forthwith.

The city chief of the JI, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, rejected the pillion-riding ban and said that by imposing such a ban the government had deprived the common man of Eid festivities.

He also demanded immediate withdrawal of the ban.
