QUETTA: A road-side explosion, targeting a Frontier Corps (FC) vehicle, near Karachi-Quetta highway on Sariab wounded two security men on Friday, DawnNews reported.

Imran Qureshi, the Superintendent of Police Sariab road told Dawn that militants had planted improvised explosive device (IED) in a fruit cart parked on the road side.

He said the IED went off with big bang when the Frontier Corps vehicle entered the proximity.

"Strength of blast also damaged vehicle of forces", Qureshi said. The intense blast shattered the windows of nearby building and shops and caused fear and panic in the area.

Rescue and security teams reached the blast site and began shifted the victims to hospitals for treatment.

Security men cordoned off the area as a probe into the incident went underway.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

Firing claims four lives

Four people, belonging to the same family, were killed in Quetta's Pashtoonabad area when unknown gunmen opened fire outside a mosque after Friday prayers, police said.

Imran Qureshi, the Superintendent of Police told Dawn that the victims were returning to their home after offering prayers when they came under attack by armed assailants.

"The assailants sped away on their motorcycles after the attack," Qureshi said adding that one person had died on the spot while three others succumbed to their wounds while on their way to hospital.

"This seems to be a case of personal enmity," Qureshi said.
