RAWALPINDI: Fear gripped the law enforcement agencies in Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Thursday night after an unidentified person pointed a laser beam on a cargo plane as it was flying over Bahria Town Phase VII, security sources said.
The sources said that the pilot spotted a light, but it was unsure whether it was a laser beam or the trail of a bullet fired from the ground. However, the plane landed safely at the airbase.
SHO Rawat said that the twin cities’ law enforcement agencies were conducting a search operation in Rawat and Sihala, along with Bahria Town Phase VII and VIII, to find the source; however, no arrests had been made.
“It looked as if someone had shown a laser light to the plane from the ground, but it was nothing serious,” he said.
Islamabad’s Additional Inspector General of Police Operations Dr Azam Taimoori was not available for his version, when contacted.
