RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Railways has planned to install filters on three water coolers at the Rawalpindi Railway Station for provision of potable water to the passengers.

Pakistan Railways Divisional Superintendent Munawar Khan told Dawn that clean drinking water facility was available at Rawalpindi Railway Station. Two coolers available at Platform No 3 are in working order while platforms 4 and 5 also have drinking water facility for the passengers.

The purchase of a large-capacity water cooler for Rawalpindi Railway Station is under consideration and it will be arranged shortly, he said.

“The administration will install three-stage-cartridges type filter on three water coolers at different platforms. Three water coolers at the diesel workshop, and one each at loco shed, coaching depot and the office of divisional superintendent will be installed within the current week,” he said.

“These coolers will provide clean water to 3,000 railway employees and thousands of passengers at Rawalpindi Railway Station,” he said, adding that Rawalpindi Division’s railway administration has made a comprehensive plan to provide clean water to all railway employees.

“In the first phase, water filtration plants at Railway Loco Colony and Railway Westridge Colony have been made operative by replacing their filtration kits,

worth Rs200,000, providing clean water to 1,735 families of railway employees,” he said.
