KARACHI: Chief of Naval Staff Adm Asif Sandela visited the coastal establishments of the navy to review the operational preparedness of the troops at PNS Makran, Pasni, on Thursday.

A statement issued here by the PN’s public relations department says that after Pasni the naval chief visited Gwadar, where he laid the foundation stone of Bahria Model School and College to be built on a 16-acre plot provided by the Balochistan government. The provincial government is also providing Rs200 for the construction and development of the college, which will be built in collaboration with a nongovernmental organisation.

A make-shift arrangement of Bahria Model School in Gwadar till 8th standard was made operational in 2010 to provide quality education to the local people. At present, 417 students are enrolled in the school and 27 teachers belonging to the local community are employed there.

With the construction of the new building the school will be upgraded to the level of intermediate college with science and computer labs, sports ground, indoor sports facilities and a library. The complex will also have a vocational training centre, auditorium, teachers’ accommodation and a human resource development centre. With these extended facilities, the institution will offer education to more than 2,000 students and also provide jobs to the local populace.

The PN has already set up a cadet college in Ormara, where local students are provided quality education free. A state-of-the-art hospital, PNS Darmanjah, is also functioning in Ormara, adds the statement.
