Shahbaz takes notice of reports alleging 'police tampering'

LAHORE. Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif took notice of media reports alleging that police officials are trying to exert pressure on medical officers responsible for compiling reports of those injured in the violent clash between Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) workers and police in Lahore, Dawn News reported on Wednesday.

DawnNews quoted relatives of the wounded as saying that officials from Punjab police were caught putting pressure on medical superintendents at Jinnah hospital to alter the reports being compiled regarding the severity of their injuries.

The police said they were at the hospital to inquire about the well-being of the patients, not to manipulate medical reports.

Members of the PAT were among the seven people killed during a clash between PAT protesters and policemen in Lahore on Tuesday.

Following the police attack on the workers of PAT and Tehreek Minhajul Quran (TMQ), the party activists in Rawalpindi and Islamabad took to the streets to protest the killings.

In a press conference after the violent clash, Shahbaz Sharif said he will resign if found responsible for the deaths.

He said he will resign if found responsible for killings, he said he will change his name if he doesn't get rid of load shedding in six months coming to power, he also said he will drag Zardari on the streets if all the $200 billion of plundered Pakistani public funds are not returned to state. He says things knowing well that people don't remember what he said yesterday.

It is not a question of resigning if found responsible by a court of law but heads of government accept full responsibility when such grave incidents happen, men and women massacred by security forces. In the interest of democracy, Nawaz and Shabaz should resign to face charges or else will be forced out of power.

The police were at the hospital to inquire about the health of their shooting victims. Good grief ! Police must think common people are retarded? Once Qadri gets here he will coordinate everything. 1. If it is illegal to put up baricades the Police IS legally allowed to use force if the protestors start using violence (i.e. pelting stones). 2. If the police murdered someone they should also be held accountable. 3. Even if NS has baricades infront of his house it doesn't mean Tahir ul Qadri can do something illegal too. If NS has murdered someone can Tahir ul Qadri murder someone too? 4. There is a judicial procedure which needs to be followed if the police isn't enforcing the law in regards to getting baricades off NS's street. That IS democracy and that is what we call rule of law. Not this thuggery on BOTH sides. If Tahir ul Qadri's supporters did this in Canada, they'd all be in jail.
