Girl burnt alive by family for love marriage

GUJRAT: A girl who married the man of her choice was burnt to death allegedly by her parents and a brother in Phalia, Mandi Bahauddin district, on Thursday.

Nadia had married Dilawar Hussain of Gujranwala some time back after leaving her house. Recently, her family contacted Nadia and told her that they had forgiven her.

As she visited her parents in Phalia, her father Shafi with the help of his wife and son set her ablaze. Nadia died before getting any medical assistance.

Police later arrested her mother and brother while Shafi was at large.

RAPE: A divorced woman was raped by a faith healer in Lundpur locality of the Civil Lines police Police arrested the accused on the order of DPO Rai Ijaz Ahmed.

DSP city Ghulam Mustafa Gillani said the medical examination report was awaited.

These are the crimes of Passion and they occur around the world. But unfortunately Our media outlets portray them as the National Culture and that is not the case at all. These are the crimes of the individual nature. Do you know More Crimes of Passion occur in America than in Pakistan but there they will not portray in their headlines everyday but in Pakistan our media do a different type of reporting. CNN, Fox News, Reuters, TimesofIndia and BBC and always on the lookout for bad news against Pakistan and these news serve their purpose very well.

All these criminals should be stoned to death and publically humiliated. Our society must change. Ironically I doubt most people who's English is good enough to read dawn are of those whom would murder their daughter in such a heinous way..

@Awan "Crime of Passion" is A typical crime of passion might involve an aggressive pub-goer who assaults another guest following an argument or a husband who discovers his wife has made him a cuckold and proceeds to brutally batter or even kill his wife and the man with whom she was involved. These kind of murders have no place in a civilized society.In addition,these are Un Islamic and there should be severe punishments for such heinous crimes.

@Awan- crimes of passion are done in the heat of the moment.These honour killings are planned in advance and are cold blooded murders. If their honour is hurt then they should go jump of a bridge instead of taking a young life.

@AliPasha "Crimes of Passion" are more diverse than you have explained and also it helps the West in Hypocrisy and defining themselves as the best. For example In America if any Husband will ever do any Harm to her lady it automatically falls into the Category of Crime of Passion or madness but if some person will do it in Pakistan then it automatically falls into Honor Killing? Just like If Some White American gunman will attack anyone then he would be categorized as Deranged but when Some Brown Muslim guy will do the same then he will be automatically called as a terrorist.

We as a nation are paying a heavy price for keeping our masses uneducated. The biggest culprits here are the land owners and the thugs who kept them uneducated to get themselves elected, as they fear education. on top of this we promote a culture of intolerance and regionalism. This is a recipe for disaster that has destroyed Pakistan at every level. its time for a CHANGE.

I hear people condemning these gruesome acts. However, I do not hear any religious leaders raising their voice against these crimes. Are such crimes acceptable to these people? I would like to know.

@prafulla shrivastva Why are we involving God into it? There is evil and good everywhere! God has given us intelligence to distinguish right from wrong, good from evil and it is up to us to make sure that evil does not supersede good. This problem has been going on for years and what have we done about it? What have our law enforcement agencies, government or even ourselves done to stop it from happening again? A week from now, this story will become an old story and no body will be talking about it. By not correcting something that is wrong in our society, we cannot expect it to go away. We do harm to ourselves and then, wonder why didn't God come to help us. If this woman's family made some wrong choices, what is stopping us from making the right choices to ensure that it never happens again?

@Awan I just wanted to address one more statement that you made. You said " if a husband harms his lady it's considered a crime of passion" and it isn't. Any time one spouse harms another for any reason at all whether they are considered justified or not, that is domestic violence and it is a crime although it may not be taken seriously by various types of authorities. These honor killings you are discussing would fall under the domestic violence category of crime but if prosecuted they would be considered first degree murder (indicating that it was premeditated) and thus carries a harsher penalty. The example of the bar fight would be called a domestic disturbance and if prosecuted they would call it an assault, the penalty for which is very different from state to state and depends on the people involved.
