NAGPUR: Mr. A. D. Mani, Editor of “Hitavada”, in the case filed against him by the Government under the Restriction and Detention Ordinance has filed a written statement in the course of which he said that the fundamental principle of the profession of journalism was that a newspaper worked on anonymity.

The authorities and the public should not be curious to find out which member of a paper’s subordinate staff was responsible for the publication of a news item. He regretted that Mr. A. K. Ghosh and H. C. Narad should have been brought into the [litigation] when the Editor was prosecuted.

[Meanwhile;] during the last few days, the Government of Sind have ordered the arrest of a number of professional labour agitators and other persons who are believed to have formulated the recent labour unrest in the Port of Karachi. This has been done with the sole [objective] of securing the resumption of work in the Karachi Port with the least possible delay and preventing a recurrence of trouble, says a Press Note. The arrested men will be released as soon as conditions permit this to be done safely. (Dawn, Delhi)
