NAWABSHAH: The Peoples Medical University Hospital (PMUH) resident medical officer was killed and his dispenser was seriously wounded in an armed attack on them in their private clinic on Saturday evening.

The paediatric unit RMO, Dr Farooq Rajper, was shot dead outside the clinic located in Afzaal Shah Town, in the Old Nawabshah area.The dispenser, Asfand Arain also received gunshot wounds in the attack carried out by unknown assailants, who managed to escape after committing the crime.

Mr Arain was rushed to the to PMUH where he was admitted.

Local associations of doctors, paramedics and chemists strongly condemned the attack and held a protest demonstration on Sunday.

Dr Ishaque Channar of the Pakistan Medical Association, Dr Sikander of the Young Doctors Association, Saleem Bhatti of the Paramedics Association, Shakeel Ahmed of the Chemists Association, Dr Sadiq Siyal, Dr Ali Akbar Siyal, Dr Ghulam Hyder Memon and others led the demonstration and expressed their serious concern over the poor law and order in the city.

The Young Doctors Association boycott their duties on Sunday but attended emergencies at various hospitals. They and demanded immediate arrest of the assailants and announced a three-day mourning.

Meanwhile, the deceased doctor’s body was handed over to the heirs after a post-mortem examination at the PMUH.

No any FIR was registered till Sunday evening.
