I thought Dawn has several more important issues to report. The selection of an international news item must meet certain criteria including its relevance to Pakistani society and the morality of a common reader. The prevailing standard of journalism in Dawn or lack of it is appalling. Gone are the days of Mr Ahmed Ali Khan and Mr M J Zahedi.

@Wachucha Here we go, moral police again! For your kind information, these things go on in Pakistani societies every day. May be not openly, but in the bushes and people's homes. Just because you choose to be oblivious about it does not mean it does not happen. This is nature, homosexuality is even found in animals, not just humans. I am not a proponent of it, but I do know that it exists and because it does, we better try and understand and even report it.

For all my pretenses, I must be an old fashioned person. I do not feel comfortable with such news items, even as I accept the principle of "to each his own". Instinctively I remembered the famous old limerick about that "Lady from Loom", for humor is one way to handle such situations. On second thoughts, I remembered the movie "Fire" starring Shabana Azmi and Nandita Bose. I had seen it without knowing anything about the movie I was being asked to come see. In the early stages, it seemed interesting enough, even funny in patches, before the story line took a sudden, unexpected and serious turn. I remained stunned as I walked out of the cinema hall. Someone asked for my reaction. I lamely ended up complimenting the Directress who had made such a compelling case for the transition for the leading characters from the "normal" to the "abnormal" that what happened seemed natural, logical, and even inevitable. Nowadays one hears that homosexuality has genetic roots. That does not necessarily explain everything either. Here again, humor comes to the rescue. There was a cartoon in the New Yorker many years ago. Two rather elderly spinsters are sitting a bar. "If homosexuality is hereditary" asks one serious minded old lady to the other. "How come they are not extinct by now?".

@Seedoo Something happening doesn't mean that you have to project it all over media and give it unnecesarry coverage. And I can tell you that same sex marriages are unheard of in Pakistani society and our moral, family value, even our law doesnt allow it, so why project such filth in our media. If west is happy with his, then so be it, BUT, this is not our way and that is where all arguments and reasonings stops.

Jodie Foster is an outstanding actress .. yet Dawn come on! We don't read dawn.com for such irrelevant topics which have nothing to do with our nation or culture... even if your editors consider this "entertainment." If we need to read sensationalist Hollywood gossip, there is plenty of such stuff on other shallow sites. Please, with all due respect, can't Dawn be faithful to the Quaid's vision of a true blue Pakistani news site with high journalistic standards? Many of us sincerely wish dawn.com would discontinue Hollywood, Bollywood tripe.

if miss foster is a role model in a country for kids,that nation is doomed to go down .kindly dont promote unnatural behaviour in pakistani nation which in general is devoid of deviated ,behaviour when it comes to raising a natural,normal family since spousal relationship is about raising a nation and is not merely carnal relationship which even most animals dont have.It is a choice but a crooked one and definately not a prevailing one even in west.so please dont print it in the Dawn which is a pakistani paper and should uphold pakistani norms

It was only last year that we had our own two girl students in UK who did a Jodie Foster . Perhaps an update would do . But perhaps that was more of Immigration driven reasons seeking asylum instead.

LGBT(Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transgenders)s, even though they form 10% of the world population, are one of the most peaceful people on Earth. There has been never a Terror Group, or a mass violence from that particular grouping. Those who oppose them are the ones who indulge in violence and bloodshed. The countries which protect them and empower them are the most modern and peaceful, which is not a surprise.

@Taimoor Khan This is the problem. You willingly put a blind fold on yourself and others around you just so that you are not faced with uncomfortable facts of life. Why allow yourself to be so wrapped up in religion, family values, and morality that you are not even given to reason, logic, and facts as they exist around you? Tell me how are we going to grow up as a nation?

@Akshay Why would they question their beliefs? They know it is shallow and they will hit the bottom before they have even taken a dive in it. It is easier to criticize others than to looks at one self. Pakistanis in general tend to be very judgmental people.

This is what tears the social fabric apart and brings down civilizations. It is not my opinion. Go read the history.

Please do not publicise these types of events. If one is allowed in certain parts of the world to act as they desire with no respect to moral grounds of certain institutions, that does not mean we should be glorifying it. We all know that this subject is taboo in mainstream public in parts of the world, so don't promote it just for reactions

@Anoop .....LGBT are a kind of their own,and if they are the most peaceful ones then LORD have mercy if we are attacked by an enemy,we sure know the LBGT being will just stand there and do nothing.LGBT as now according to LGBT scientists,are homosexuals by birth,and if everyone became or is born LGBT,then we can expect no one from them to help out as they are ''peacefull'' by nature.The west is creating a scam by showing us that LGBT are good people,infact that is not so the case,you should see them behind their deceiving facade that they have feelings like the straight people, they too feel jealous,envy,greed,rage,anger,loneliness,betrayal,etc. So mister these are not the traits of peacefull people.

@excalibur Well, the can always adopt a kid, and maybe they don't want one. What's important is that two grown-up people have fallen in love and are having a satisfactory, fulfilling relationship. If world has not ended after all the gang-rapes (including that of 7-years-old) in your society, I think the world has no reason to end after this event.

homosexuality between men and women is as much old as human civilization.it is very sad that in some islamic countries homosexuals awarded capital punishments . one of your reader is even against to publish such type of news in paper and he has gone further to teach journalism to you. one must understand the rights of individuals . democracy is not merely a system of governance but a way of life .

What in heaven's name is going on?To what level of depravity and lewdness are we yet to sink to?Will someone please shed light on the psychedelic and religious aspects of same sex marriage which,unfortunately,now has the full support of the law.If things continue to stay as they are will it be long for the heavens to come down in their full fury?

While it is none of my business on what they do, but media glorifies these things - Both US media and Indian media as if they achieved great things. Firefox browser CEO donated some money to support traditional marriages, and media scrutiny was so much he was forced to resign.

@Seedoo better not to bluff so badly just for mere defense of the view and immoral lifestyle you support. There can never be or has been any scientific proff of homosexuality and such relations. Only environment and social circle is the reason that leads towards here. Some moral policing is good when morals starts to vanish and start effecting a 'value based structure' of a society.

Islam gives the Muslims the right to judge behavior but it does not give us the right to judge people. Only Allah has that right. Our final revelation, the Quran, says that homosexuality; the final act itself is wrong. But the tendency itself and the feelings, the Quran is silent on it. When somebody has those feelings, if he has those urges and he is fighting them, then counseling is recommended for him. The act itself is considered evil and is considered the same as fornication. At the end of the day, Islam does not condone homosexuality.
