MINGORA: The University of Swat on Wednesday held a seminar to create awareness among public about the ways and means to prevent dengue. The seminar titled ‘prevention and control’ was held at the Odigram campus of the university.

It was organised by the disaster management and health affairs society of the varsity to coincide with the conclusion of the social work week observed with the aim to motivate students to take part in social activities.

Addressing the seminar, key speaker Dr Najamusamawat said that though dengue was a dangerous disease it could be controlled by adopting preventive measures.

‘’We can control the disease by removing stagnant water and covering pots containing water,” he added. He maintained that dengue fever was also curable.

Dr Najam said that people should be informed about the ways and means for preventing outbreak of dengue epidemic.

Meanwhile, a documentary prepared by the district health department was also screened on the occasion, highlighting awareness among people regarding dengue fever.

SOCIAL WEEK CONCLUDES: The social work week, organised by the office of social work at the University of Swat, concluded on Wednesday.

Mr Imran, in-charge of the social work, said different students’ societies of the university participated in the events, including a seminar on uses and misuses of social media, a walk to create awareness about importance of education and a poster competition to mark the Mother Earth Day.

ROAD ACCIDENT: At least 19 people were injured when a pickup van plunged into a ravine after the driver lost control of the steering due to brake failure at Cheetor area here on Wednesday.

The van was going to Mingora from Marghazar valley. Local people rescued the injured and shifted them to Saidu Sharif hospital, where condition of all the injured was stated to be out of danger.
