MIRPURKHAS: Thunderstorm and moderate to heavy rain hit parts of Sindh for a second consecutive day on Tuesday causing disruption in power supply and damage to various crops.

It rained for 20 hours in Mirpurkhas city and its adjoining areas. Rooftops of many thatched houses and weak structures as well as a number of hoardings were blown away while many trees were uprooted by the thunderstorm that accompanied the downpour.

Temperature in the region dropped considerably providing relief to people hit by scorching heat for several weeks.

Power supply to most areas was restored by Tuesday evening.

Badin also received light showers that followed a dust-storm late on Monday night. A hailstorm hit some parts of the district while intermittent downpour continued till early Tuesday.

Growers said their crops, particularly mangoes, were badly affected by the hailstorm and rain. The affected areas included Badin city, Matli, Talhar and Tando Bago tehsils.

Hyderabad was also hit by an hour-long spell of rain which followed a dust-storm and thunderstorm late on Monday night.

The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) switched off power supply to seven districts of Hyderabad division as a precautionary measure, according to an official announcement.

The supply was restored after weather conditions improved.
