KARACHI: As expected, Islamabad’s Nofil Kaleem emerged as the most successful player by capturing a double crown in the Essa Lab Open Tennis Championship which concluded at Karachi Club courts on Tuesday.

A former Asian under-14 No 1, Nofil reigned supreme by winning the under-16 and under-18 singles finals in contrasting styles.

He fought courageously from a set down to whip Raza Sawani 5-7, 6-0, 10-8 for the under-16 honours and completed the double by inflicting a straight sets 6-2, 6-2 defeat on Marib Malik to pick up spoils in under-18 singles.

Teenagers Ilham Khan and Amin Shafi picked up the under-14 and under-12 titles respectively. The former inflicted 6-4, 6-4 defeat on Bilal Imran while the latter got the better of Mohammad Dada 9-7.

Dr Farhan Essa, sponsors of the event, who graced the occasion, gave away the prizes.

Final results:

Under-12 singles: Amin Shafi bt Mohammad Dada 9-7.

Under-14 singles: Ilham Khan bt Bilal Imran 6-4, 6-4.

Under-16 singles: Nofil Kaleem bt Raza Sawani 5-7, 6-0, 10-8.

Under-18 singles: Nofil Kaleem bt Marib Malik 6-2, 6-2.
