LAHORE: The Lahore High Court directed on Thursday the federal government to verify detention of two more Pakistani citizens at the Bagram Theatre Internment Camp, Afghanistan, as claimed by a petitioner-organization fighting for the release of citizens from the jail.

Justice Project Pakistan, a non-profit law firm, filed an application to add names of two more alleged detainees in the list of to be released prisoners from the US captivity in Afghanistan.

During the course of hearing, firm’s counsel Barrister Sarah Belal told court that the petitioner had information about detention of two more Pakistani citizens namely Bismillah Khan and Faizoo Khan at Bagram prison.

She asked the court to direct the government to also take steps for the release and repatriation of these two citizens.

Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan issued a notice to the government and directed to verify the detention of two citizens.

The judge adjourned the hearing till May 2 to take up the application along with the main case.

The JPP in its main petition stated that at least 25 Pakistani citizens had been detained at the Bagram jail without any charge or trial since 2003.

It alleged that they were abducted from Pakistan and removed to the infamous US prison in Afghanistan.

ORDERED: An election tribunal ordered on Thursday recounting of votes in PP-175, Kasur, after admitting allegations of rigging on part of returned candidate Muhammad Yaqoob Nadeem Sethi.

An independent runner-up candidate, Ilyas Khan, had challenged the victory of PML-N’s Sethi and asked the tribunal to order recounting of votes.

Khan alleged that Sethi with the help of his party men committed rigging on the day of polling and got bogus votes cast in his favour.

The one-man election tribunal member, Kazim Ali Malik, directed the returning officer of the constituency to complete the process of recounting and submit his report.
