HYDERABAD: In a letter addressed to the chief minister, Sindh Abadgar Board (SAB) president Abdul Majeed Nizamani has opposed an increase of Rs50 in the support price of wheat, saying that it should be fixed at Rs1,400 per 40kg.

The SAB had been demanding since day one that the support price should be fixed at Rs1400 per 40kg, keeping in view the cost of production of the grain. But, he said, it was not accepted by the government.

He said the government had announced the increase of Rs50, but the SAB and other organisations had not welcomed it.

This nominal increase, he said, had been announced in the mid of season when farmers had already sold their crop at official price, depriving them of the benefit.

He urged the CM to announce support price of Rs1,400. Those who had supplied it before April 12 should be compensated by payment of differential amount immediately, he demanded.
