LAHORE: Police in Sahiwal on Wednesday claimed arresting the key suspect in the gang-rape case of a girl at Chak 81/5-R, DawnNews reported.

The incident had happened on March 12.

Earlier on Sunday, police had claimed that it had arrested one of the four suspects in the case.

Moreover, on Tuesday, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had lashed out at police for showing inefficiency and negligence in handling the investigation and had warned the Punjab police inspector general and the Sahiwal regional police officer of suspension if the arrests were not carried out within 48 hours.

The chief minister had also suspended four policemen, including a station house officer (SHO) and a deputy superintendent (DSP), the same day during a visit to the house of the girl allegedly raped by four men of the same village.

“The IG and the RPO will also be suspended if culprits are not arrested in 48 hours,” Chief Minister Sharif had told the girl’s mother.
