KARACHI, June 6: Sunday’s rains ruined the entire road network in Lyari Town which were already in poor condition and needed repair works.

The town administration has failed even to maintain the major roads in the town. Though it had approached the city government for trench repair of some of the main roads in the town, it did not receive positive response.

The rain has totally damaged the Shah Latif Bhittai Road and its link arteries which include Ahmed Shah Bukhari Road, Fidha Husain Sheikha Road, Haji Pir Mohammed Road, D. D Chowdhry Road and Karabai Karimji Road.

These roads are impassable because of gravels, potholes and standing rain water.

A resident said no repair work had been done on these roads for the last many years by the civic agencies on the pretext of shortage of funds.

The Karabai Karimji Road in Nawabad shows a disgusting picture because of dirt and filth as the locality has no proper arrangement for disposal of domestic and commercial waste.

Over the years Karabai Karimji, once a residential area, has been converted into a commercial centre with all sorts of shops to meet the domestic as well as commercial needs of the people.

All sorts of shopkeepers and fruit sellers throw away their waste on the road creating stinking condition in the locality. Moreover, people in the absence of any proper dustbin also throw domestic waste in the congested streets where dumps of garbage could be seen lying unattended for weeks.

The condition of Sheedi village road, Faqir Mohammad Durra Khan and Juna Kumarwara roads and Chawkiwara Road linking the town with the main shopping area—-Lea Market— also show a dismal picture.

Although heavy transport activity has already damaged these commercial routes of the town, and now the rain have caused further destruction.

The residents have complained that the main roads and almost entire network of street roads in the town have not been maintained properly for years. As a result, the rains created havoc and totally damaged the road network. They have called for urgent measures for carrying out road repair works in the town.
