KARACHI: A 28-member Afghanistan cricket squad arrived here from Peshawar on Tuesday for a fortnight training tour at the Arabian Sea Country Club (ASCC) Ground from Wednesday.

Former Pakistan captains Aamir Sohail and Rashid Latif will be supervising the training camp with Afghan chief coach and former Pakistan Test paceman Kabir Khan.

Mohammad Shafiq Stanikzai is the head of the delegation while Mohammad Nabi is leading the team.

Training is part of Afghanistan’s preparation for next year’s World Cup being co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

The Afghan team officials, however, didn’t speak to the waiting media at the airport.

The representatives of ASCC, led by Farrukh Haroon, received the squad at the Quaid-i-Azam International Airport.

Rashid, who was the chief coach of Afghanistan, will be imparting training to their wicket-keepers.

According to reports, the Afghans will also be playing a few practice matches against the local teams.

The groundstaff at the ASCC have made special preparations with the gymnasium and other related facilities being upgraded for the tourists.

This is for the first time that a full-fledged Afghanistan cricket team is visiting Pakistan for a training tour and they have chosen ASCC as the venue.—APP
