FAISALABAD: Javed Siddique was much happy by displaying his 87 model Foxy car at the first Auto Show organised by the district government.

The show held at the D Ground of Peoples Colony on Sunday attracted a large number of people from different walks of life.

Talking to Dawn, Siddique said he had purchased the vehicle in his youth and preserved it for his children. “Now my son drives the car and invitation by the district government to bring the vehicle for the show filled me with pride.”

Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah flanked by local politicians and other notables inaugurated the show.

Adil Nasir along with his family visited the show before going to enjoy fast food at a local eatery.

He said the family came to know about the show after being stuck in the traffic outside D Ground roads. “Finding no option we thronged the show and found it marvelous,” he said.

Adil said enjoying display of modern to decades old cars on roads was fascinating and he saw a number of vehicles manufactured in 60s.

He said it was also praiseworthy that the administration did not make it a ticketed event. However, the administration failed to decorate the display area and protect the vehicles that were vulnerable to visitors.

He said it was also condemnable that the management had allowed influential people to enter the show on their luxury vehicles while others were asked to park their cars away from the venue and go on foot.

Different stalls had been set up by the organisers as vehicles were kept in assorted categories.

People grabbed photos of the vehicles with permission of the owners who were present on the spot to tell them about features of the vehicles.

An owner was happy to have his vehicle included in the show. He said nothing had been done to protect the vehicles as only a ribbon was unfurled to stop visitors.

He said next time the administration should come up with better arrangements for visitors. Some people termed it a ‘car dealer show’ rather an auto show as its main organiser was an automobile dealer.
