KARACHI: The second meeting of the advisory committee on Gwadar Export Processing Zone was held on Wednesday to review its progress, a press release said.

The Meeting was chaired by Ms. Rabiya Javeri Agha, Chairperson Export Processing Zone Authority (EPZA).

She said the authority needed support of stakeholders to develop 1,000 acre land of Gwadar EPZ for creating employment in the region and increasing exports, keeping in view strategic road networks linking Pakistan with Western China. The participants unanimously endorsed that initially 1,000 acres area earmarked as Gwadar EPZ may be developed and its progress may be given in the next meeting scheduled to be held in Gwadar.

Pakistan and China also agreed to establish economic corridor by setting-up different economic zones to give impetus to economic activities for achieving higher growth in years to come. Ms. Javeri Agha also intimated that EPZ legal framework had embodied all viable, operational models to provide a tax-free facility to industrial houses and investors.

Dr. Sajjad, Director General Gwadar Development Authority, also gave a presentation on the Master Plan of Gwadar. On the occasion, Commissioner Makran also assured that the mutation of land in favor of Gwadar EPZ will be settled.
