KOHAT: The three-party alliance of opposition parties formed for the local government elections has asked the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to cancel its plan of shifting the Frontier Education Foundation (FEF) academy from Kohat.

The alliance comprising Pakistan Peoples Party, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl and Awami National Party termed the performance of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government dismal, saying Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf had failed to implement its agenda concerning promotion of education and weeding out corruption from the government departments and society.

The issue of FEF was discussed at a meeting chaired by the alliance president Mohammad Iqbal.

The alliance said that establishment of a dental college in Kohat was a welcome step, but they would oppose the government’s decision to shift the FEF academy to accommodate the college. It said that the academy, established in Kohat by former governor Iftikhar Hussain Shah, was a gift for the teachers where they were being imparted special training.

They warned that they would launch a protest if the academy was shifted to other city.

They said that the government should construct a new building for the dental college.

Mr Iqbal said that despite passage of 10 months the PTI-led provincial government had not constituted local zakat committees, which was an injustice with the poor people.

The meeting discussed strategy for the coming local government elections and asked the aspiring candidates at various levels to submit applications with their respective party heads.

The meeting was attended by PPP’s Nadir Khan Khattak and Qalbe Hassan, Inayatullah Qureshi of ANP, Qari Sher Zaman of JUI-F, former district nazim Gohar Saifullah, Amanullah Khan and other office-bearers of the alliance.
