QUETTA: Traders observed strike in the border town of Chaman on Wednesday in protest against raid on the house of a businessman.

Protesters blocked the National Highway and stopped the Chaman passenger train from proceeding ahead. The business community kept all shops and trading centres closed to express solidarity with fellow trader Haji Habibullah Khan Achakzai and condemn security forces for allegedly arresting and torturing his son.

Activists of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party and traders staged sit-in at the Quetta-Chaman National Highway and the railway line near Zharband, stopping containers carrying Nato supplies and Afghan Transit Trade goods, and the train for some time.

Protesters urged the government to take action against those security men who had raided the house of Mr Achakzai and arrested his son.
