KHAIRPUR, July 3: Scores of growers staged a demonstration on Thursday and demanded remodelling of Faiz Nahar Wah to enhance its water capacity.

The growers complained that there was an acute shortage of water in its 21 branches including Mehrab Wah, Imam Shakh, Kharal Shakh, Sobha Shakh, Seth Areja Shakh, Khero Shakh, Hameed-Ji-Shakh, Khuhro Minor, Daraza Shaikh and Panjo-Ji-Shakh and others.

They said the Wah was designed to irrigate only 25 per cent lands whereas it is being used to irrigate 100 per cent land, therefore, it should be remodelled to meet the requirement.

They demanded that all narrow bridges built on the canal should be widened and illegal watercourses at the head of the canal should be eliminated.

Meanwhile, a large number of growers continued their protest demonstrations against a shortage of water on Thursday in two different areas of the district.

The growers of Weeho Wah tail continued their protest in Faiz Ganj, the taluka headquarter, against the water shortage.

They said there was no water for their fields since last six month due to which their crops have been destroyed. They demanded immediate provision of water and threatened to go on hunger strike from Saturday if their demands were not accepted.
