ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah emphasised that interference in the conflicts of other countries was unacceptable for Pakistan, DawnNews reported.

In an apparent reference to the Syrian conflict, Shah said that it was more acceptable to send humanitarian aid to countries ravaged by war.

The opposition leader was speaking at a joint session of the three opposition parties in the parliament, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Awami National Party (ANP) and Pakistan Muslim League – Quaid (PML-Q). The meeting was held in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The ongoing talks between the government and the TTP, the March 4 attack on the Islamabad district courts and several other issues pertaining to the country’s political and security situations were discussed at the joint session

The opposition parties also discussed their joint strategy within the National Assembly. They expressed their concern over the $1.5 billion aid given to Pakistan by Saudi Arabia.

Talking about reports that retired army officers were being sent to Syria directly or indirectly, the parliamentarians of the three parties vowed to strongly oppose such a move if the government decided to send troops to Syria.

Shah also said that if Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif could not attend a session at the Senate, then he must call a combined session of the two houses of the parliament.

Other issues discussed in the meeting were the ups and downs of the US dollar and the inflation that continues to increase despite the promises made by the government.
