QUETTA: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Quetta on Monday issued arrest warrants for the guarantors of the former military ruler Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf in a case relating to the murder of Baloch nationalist leader Nawb Akbar Bugti, DawnNews reported.

The ATC in Quetta issued the warrants against Mumtaz Ahmad and Nazeer Ahmad after the former president failed to appear in court.

Moreover, the court accepted pleas requesting bail for former provincial home minister Mir Shoaib Nosherwani and former federal interior minister Aftab Sherpao.

Subsequently, the hearing of the case was adjourned to April 7.

Baloch nationalist leader Akbar Khan Bugti was killed in a cave on Aug 26, 2006 during a military crackdown ordered by Musharraf who was president and army chief at the time.

An FIR was registered under sections 302 and 304 of the Pakistan Penal Code against Musharraf and others in 2009 for their alleged involvement in Bugti’s murder.

Bugti had led an armed campaign to press for provincial autonomy and a greater share of profits from Balochistan’s natural resources. The death of the Baloch chieftain had sparked angry protests in the country.
